Testing for Tuberculosis (TB)

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB PCR)
 

  • Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) from symptomatic individual

Specimen Requirements

  • 5 ml sputum/induced sputum

  • 5 ml broncho-alveolar lavage (BAL)

  • 5 ml tracheal wash

  • 3-5 ml blood in heparin tube

  • 10 ml urine

  • 0.5-1 ml lymph node aspirate

  • 1-2 ml cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)

  • 0.5-1 ml bone marrow

  • 5 ml pus from abscess   

  • 5 ml synovial fluid (from joint)

  • 5 ml pleural fluid

  • Min 2 cm fresh tissue/ biopsy (synovial biopsy, endometrial biopsy, tissue biopsy/scrapings)

  • 3 days

T-spot TB
 

  • Indirect test for M. tuberculosis infection in symptomatic (active TB) and asymptomatic (latent TB) individual

Specimen Requirements

  • Adults and children 10 years old and over: 6 ml heparinized blood

  • Children 2-9 years old: one 4 ml heparinized blood

  • Children below 2 years old: 2 ml heparinized blood

    *Do not refrigerate/freeze sample

    * Sample not more than 30 hours
